Wakamataku

Welcome to the untamed islands of Wakamataku! A region lost to time. Many of the rest of Nimmervale doubt it even truly exists. Throughout Nimmervale, legends tell of a thriving society that lived long ago on isolated islands west of Valikovia. They were more advanced than any other people at the time. No one is certain why they were so different, though. Many say they came from somewhere beyond, which explains how they were so advanced.

The inhabitants of ancient Wakamataku remained isolated on the islands and refrained from interfering with the people of the mainland. They are only known because some are said to have ventured there to explore, seeking wonders and treasures from the mysterious islands.

The persistent intrusion from mainlanders angered the ancient tribes. Eventually, something massive occurred, and the people disappeared. The existence of the islands all but vanished, and no one tried to explore there again.

The islands, left untouched for many generations, were stumbled upon by some sea merchants. They returned with tales of tortle and shark people living on the islands. Now the region is ripe to be explored once more.

You can explore this untouched land's natural beauty and fantastic treasures here. Interact with the Sea Tortles, the primary inhabitants of this region. Learn from their culture and discover a race barely touched by the outside world. Beware of their enemies, the Selachian and Manoaila tribes. They are large, fearsome shark creatures that hunt the tortles and terrorize the islands of Wakamataku.

Inhabitants

Sea Tortles

The sea tortles of Wakamataku are coastal cousins to the terrestrial tortles found elsewhere throughout Nimmervale. Their bloodline mixes more with aquatic sea turtles than land tortoises making them more amphibian. The sea tortle adults are typically around 6 feet tall, with only a slightly reduced size for females. They are very stocky and usually weigh between 500-700 pounds, including their shells. Tortles have scaley skin, typically green, yellow, or brown. The sea tortles have a beak-like mouth that can deliver a fierce bite.

The Manoaila (Shark Ogres)

Long ago, ancient dark magic formed on one of the islands of Wakamataku. An ancient monolith, a runestone, possessed this magic. A primitive ogre race inhabited this area. The magic here transformed them into a new species. The ogres evolved to have traits and features of the sharks from this region. They adapted into an apex predator formed by pure evil. The Manoaila race was born.

They are sizeable amphibious monsters, standing up to 11 feet tall. They generally have gray or blue-colored skin, a shark’s head, and an ogre body. There are some features of either species overlapping as well. They have incredibly sharp teeth and are known for being extremely aggressive. The Manoaila enjoy tattooing their bodies, making them a tapestry of their achievements.

Selachians

Selachians are massive, bestial humanoids with shark heads and features but humanoid arms and legs. They are hairless, very muscular, generally 7 feet tall, and weigh around 400 pounds, though size varies greatly depending on the subrace of Selachian. The shark species the head resembles generally reflect their place or class in the Selachian society.

Dwellings

Within Wakamataku, the Sea Tortles primarily occupy two villages on either side of Puka Bay on the large island of Marama. The northern village is the home of the Matu Tribe. The Matu tribe mostly stays to themselves and protects their colonies from outsiders to ensure hatchlings survive. In the southern village lives the Tonga Tribe. The Tonga Tribe has evolved beyond the old ways and has embraced pieces of other cultures they have interacted with on their journeys.
